Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said that his administration places the highest priority on the security of the people of Abia, regardless of the enormous financial cost involved.

Governor Otti made the remark on Thursday when the newly posted General Officer Commanding, GOC, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, paid him a familiarisation visit in the state.

He noted that security requires significant financial outlay to sustain, but explained that any investment made in an environment where the safety of lives and property is not prioritised is bound to fail.

“We also know that security costs a lot of money, so we spare no effort in ensuring that our people are secured.

“If people cannot sleep with their two eyes closed, no matter how much investment you put in, nobody will patronise it”, Gov. Otti stated.

The governor assured the GOC of the maximum cooperation and support of the state government and urged him to visit all locations and battalions within the state.

Earlier in his remarks, the GOC, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander, South-East Joint Task Force, “Operation Udoka”, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, assured the Abia governor that, having served in the East as a young officer, he would draw on his wealth of experience to stem the tide of insecurity and criminality in Abia State and across the entire South-East.

While soliciting the support of the Abia State Government and its people, Major General Fadairo thanked the governor for his continued support for security agencies in the state.
