Govs Yusuf, Radda Deliver Verdict On Abdulsalami At 83rd Birthday

“General Abdulsalami Abubakar remains a beacon of hope and a shining example of selfless service.

Kano state Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and his Katsina state counterpart, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda have extended warm congratulations to Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), on the occasion of his 83rd birthday, describing him as a builder of peace and unity.

The Katsina State further described General Abubakar as a true statesman whose legacy continues to inspire generations of Nigerians, particularly his pivotal role in Nigeria’s transition to democratic rule.

“General Abdulsalam Abubakar is one of Nigeria’s most selfless leaders, at a critical moment in our nation’s history, he chose the country over personal ambition, steering Nigeria back to civilian rule and earning global respect as a democracy champion,” Governor Radda declared.

The Governor praised the octogenarian’s continued dedication to peace-building across Africa, noting his influential work with various international organizations in conflict resolution and democratic governance.

“Even at 83, General Abubakar remains actively engaged in building a better Nigeria and a peaceful Africa. His wisdom, integrity, and commitment to justice make him a treasure to our entire nation,” the Governor observed.

The Governor, on behalf of the government and the people of Katsina State wished General Abubakar continued good health, happiness, and many more years of impactful service to humanity.

In his own goodwill message issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf described General Abdulsalami as a true patriot and elder statesman whose contributions to Nigeria’s unity, democracy, and peace remain enduring.

The Kano State Governor praised the former Nigerian leader for his role in ushering Nigeria into democratic governance in 1999, noting that the nation’s return to civilian rule stands as a historic milestone made possible by General Abdulsalami’s foresight and leadership.

“General Abdulsalami Abubakar remains a beacon of hope and a shining example of selfless service.

“His commitment to peacebuilding, national unity, and good governance continues to inspire generations of Nigerians,” the statement read.

Governor Yusuf also prayed for the retired General’s continued good health, wisdom, and long life, expressing hope that his voice of reason will remain strong in national discourse.

“As you mark your 83rd birthday, the government and good people of Kano State join millions of Nigerians in celebrating your legacy and wishing you more years of impactful service to humanity,” he added.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar served as Nigeria’s Head of State from June 1998 to May 1999, handing over power to an elected civilian government and setting the country on a path to democratic consolidation.
