Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, on Saturday gave President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a pass mark for his performance in office, saying the Nigerian leader is doing his best across key sectors of governance.
Gowon spoke with journalists after paying a courtesy visit to the President at the State House Abuja, explaining that his visit was primarily to appreciate the efforts of the administration and to encourage the President in his leadership of the country.
The elder statesman noted that Nigerians should acknowledge the progress being made under Tinubu’s administration across political, economic and social sectors.
While admitting that insecurity remains a major challenge in the country, Gowon expressed confidence in the President’s commitment to addressing the situation.
The former military leader, widely regarded as a voice of national reconciliation and peace, also responded to questions on the message he would give Nigerians amid the current socio-economic challenges.
According to him, the responsibility for addressing such issues ultimately lies with the government, adding that he believes the administration is making genuine efforts to tackle them.
The visit comes amid ongoing consultations and engagements between President Tinubu and prominent national leaders on governance, security and national development.
