Graduating Officers : Air War Officers Urged To Fight Terror, Crime

Graduating officers of the Air War College have been charged to take the lead in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and organized crime.

The call came from Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar who was represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, the Minister urged officers of Air War Course 11/2025 to embrace innovation, foresight, and proactive leadership.

“The rise of violent non-state actors and complex security threats requires innovative and proactive methods to combat them,” the Minister said. “Your training at this esteemed institution has equipped you to make decisive contributions to national security.”

Also speaking, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, urged the graduands to act swiftly against terrorism, warning that “terrorism anywhere must be defeated before it undermines peace everywhere.” He reminded them that Africa’s expanding terror networks demand coordinated and decisive responses.

The 37-week course, which began on January 15, 2025, trained 29 senior officers in leadership, strategy, joint operations, and cyber warfare. The graduands were awarded Fellowships of the Air War College, with Cdr PC Onah emerging as Overall Best and Best Research Paper awardee. Other awardees included Gp Capt CJ Mbam, Wg Cdr EA Okeke, and Lt Col PNE Nguoa of Cameroon, who was Best Allied Participant.

The Commandant of the Air War College, Air Vice Marshal Babatunde Phillips, described the graduation as the culmination of months of intellectual rigor and professional transformation, urging the officers to apply their knowledge to practical leadership.

The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Barrister Sam Ode, representing the Executive Governor, commended the Nigerian Air Force for its commitment to training and the sacrifice of its personnel in defending the nation.
