Hawks Arrest 13 in R114 Million Mpumalanga Education Department Corruption Probe, Suspects to Appear in Court Today
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks, has made a series of coordinated arrests in connection with an alleged R114 million corruption and tender fraud scandal linked to the Mpumalanga Department of Education.
So far, 13 suspects, including former senior department officials and private service providers believed to have benefited from inflated contracts and irregular payments have been taken into custody across several provinces as part of a long‑running investigation into tender irregularities dating back to 2018.
All those arrested are expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court today to face charges that could include fraud, corruption and money‑laundering.
