Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed in an assassination attack at his residence in the Hamada quarter of Zintan in western Libya, according to reports from local journalist and Sahara researcher Oumar Alansari.

Security and family sources say the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when four unidentified gunmen entered the garden of his house described as a rest house and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene.

Investigators reported that the attackers disabled the surveillance cameras around the property prior to the shooting. In the course of the attack, at least one of Gaddafi’s companions was injured. The child of one of the companions, identified as Al-Ajami Al-Ateiri’s son, was also killed, the sources added.

Armed clashes were reported in the same sector after the shooting, though officials have not confirmed the scale or parties involved.

In an official statement, Abdullah Othman, described as Seif al-Islam’s political spokesman and head of his political team, confirmed the death, referring to Gaddafi as a “mujahid” (fighter) and expressing condolences.

Sources close to the family affirmed that his death occurred under mysterious circumstances, and details are still emerging.

The 444th Combat Brigade, a military unit affiliated with the Libyan Government of National Unity, denied involvement in the attack or any deployment of its forces in the area, according to local media reports.
