“I Did Not Resign” – Factional ADC Chairman Insists, Debunk Viral Letter

The factional Acting National Chairman and former Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Nafiu Bala, has denied a viral resignation letter.

In a statement issued on Friday, Bala described the letter purportedly bearing his signature and dated May 18, 2025, as forged and misleading.

Recall that the David Mark-led ADC had dismissed Bala’s claim to the party’s chairmanship. It released Bala’s resignation letter as deputy national chairman on May 17, 2025, where he said he resigned his position for smooth and effective coalition and restructuring.

According to the resignation letter, addressed to the party’s national chairman in Abuja at No.4 Oyo Street, Area II, Garki, Abuja, his departure took effect on May 26, 2025.

Bala’s resignation letter, as released by the ADC spokesman, was titled, “Letter of resignation as deputy national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)”

But in his statement, Bala dismissed the document as fake, attributing its circulation to “mischievous elements” both within and outside the party seeking to sow discord and confusion.

According to him, the ADC Constitution states that any aspirant for a leadership position must have been a financial member of the party for at least one year, emphasizing that the rules governing party leadership remain intact and unchanged.

He also recalled that his predecessor, Ralph Nwosu, formally resigned at a gathering at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua centre and publicly confirmed Bala’s continued role within the party.

He said: “In his address to the global media, he made a specific mention of my status, stating, ‘Nafiu Bala did not resign as the Deputy National Chairman.’ This statement alone invalidates any claims of my resignation and underscores the deceitful nature of the circulated letter.

“All my official communications are written on the official letterhead bearing the emblem and insignia of the ADC. The fake letter, in contrast, was printed on plain paper without any official markings. This blatant inconsistency only further discredits the document and exposes the malicious intent behind its fabrication.”

“The Constitution of the African Democratic Congress clearly stipulates that anyone seeking a leadership role must be a party member in good standing and must have fulfilled their financial obligations for no less than one year prior to contesting. This provision remains binding and cannot be bypassed,” he added.

He called on party members, supporters, and the general public to remain vigilant and not be misled by what he described as attempts to destabilize the party’s leadership.

Bala maintained that he remains committed to the ideals of the African Democratic Congress and to the collective mission of building a united and prosperous Nigeria.
