The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has issued a clarification following backlash over his recent statement regarding a “curse” allegedly affecting the Igbo quest for the Nigerian presidency.
In a statement released on Sunday, the cleric said his message had been “grossly misunderstood and misinterpreted” by those who believe he harbours hatred toward the Igbo ethnic group or supports the current administration.
According to Ayodele, nothing in his prophecies or public messages has ever been motivated by tribal sentiment.
He stated: “There has never been a time when my messages or prophecies expressed hatred for any tribe. I love everyone regardless of their tribe, and this is why my church has a mixture of several tribes and ethnic groups.”
The cleric explained that his comment on the so-called Igbo curse was intended as a solution-oriented warning, not an attack on the region’s political aspirations.
He maintained that he is not against an Igbo presidency:
“My statement is more of a solution toward getting the presidency than what it’s been perceived to be. I shared the secret of cleansing the tribe of the curse that has been blocking their progress.”
Ayodele said his emphasis was on providing spiritual guidance ahead of the 2027 presidential election, urging Igbo stakeholders to ask how the alleged curse could be lifted instead of “taking the wrong steps.”
He concluded that his responsibility is to deliver divine messages and offer solutions, noting that it is up to the people to accept or reject them.
