Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has raised alarm over the skyrocketing cost of diesel, describing it as unsustainable for both his businesses and daily operations in a video clip posted online.

In the clip, he disclosed that at his KAP Village enterprise, he spent ₦11 million on diesel in just 4–5 weeks, despite having solar power installed.

“I have been sad because I can’t cope with ₦1,500 per liter for diesel. In one of the businesses that I run, KAP Village, I spent ₦11 million in just 4–5 weeks on diesel,” he said.

Afolayan explained that even with solar power, expenses remain high: “We have solar power but we still spend up to that. In Lagos, we still spend a lot even though we have solar power.”

He noted that the recent fuel price hike from ₦1,000 to over ₦1,500 per liter has made it harder to manage costs, especially when diesel is bought on credit and repaid over time.

“Please, we need loan to upgrade our solar power,” he added, appealing to financial institutions and government agencies to provide support that would help businesses like his reduce reliance on expensive diesel and ensure sustainable operations.
