A group of indigenous Contractors handling Federal Projects on Tuesday stormed the National Assembly to protest the non payment of accumulated debt by the Government.
The protesters, carrying placards with various inscriptions, converged at the main entrance of the Assembly complex, chanting solidarity songs and demanding immediate payment for projects they said were completed over a year ago.
The protest caused to closure of all exit and entry gates leading to the National Assembly, a development leading to heavy traffic Congestion within and around the Assembly complex.
Some Contractors who spoke with Journalists said they’ve completed projects such as school renovations and computer supplies over a year ago but have yet to be paid.
The contractors lamented that many took bank loans and are now in distress, vowing to continue the protest daily until their demands are met.
They also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure their payments are released.
It was learnt that the protest led to the abrupt adjournment by Members of the House of Representatives.
