The nominee for Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has promised to conduct a comprehensive audit of the commission’s system to identify the causes of the glitches that affected the INEC Result Viewing (IREV) portal during the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking during his screening before the Senate Committee on INEC, Prof. Amupitan acknowledged that the failure of the IREV platform during the election “eroded public confidence” in the electoral process.
“I will audit the INEC system to find out what went wrong and what happened with the IREV glitches during the 2023 presidential election, which eroded the confidence of many people,” he said.
He assured lawmakers that restoring transparency, accountability, and public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system would be his top priority if confirmed.
