The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed disappointment that, one year after their president, Comrade Joe Ajaero, was brutalized in Owerri, Imo State, no one has been held accountable for the vicious attack.
Despite the ordeal, Ajaero remains committed to serving Nigerian workers. According to Benson Upah, NLC’s Head of Information and Public Affairs, Ajaero was abducted, brutalized, and left for dead by state agents in Owerri, Imo State, simply for leading a peaceful protest against non-payment of salaries and pensions.
The statement highlights the severity of the attack, noting that Ajaero required more than six months of treatment in and outside the country to regain his sight and bodily functions.
Furthermore, the harassment has continued, with Ajaero being invited by the police to defend himself against allegations of terrorism financing, subversion, and treasonable felony.
