The attackers, believed to be affiliated with the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), targeted both military and civilian areas.

The jihadists have issued explicit threats to advance further south, with stated intentions to reach Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, and confront the current military rulers. This declaration has escalated tensions across the country, as fears of a larger and more coordinated offensive grow.
