JNIM Claims Responsibility For IED Attack On Nigerian Army Patrol in Tillabéri

With almost all escape routes effectively closed, the military has strategically sealed major transit corridors used by the bandits to evade capture. These measures, combined with the destruction of supply lines, have significantly weakened their operational capabilities. The success of Operation Fansan Yanma signals a critical turning point in the fight against banditry, as the military sustains its mission to eliminate criminal elements and restore peace to affected communities.

The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda-affiliated group, has claimed responsibility for an attack using an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting a patrol of the Nigerian Army.

The attack occurred between the towns of Samira and Boulkabo in the Tillabéri region, a volatile area in Niger known for escalating violence by armed terrorist groups.

In a statement released on January 22, JNIM alleged that the attack was part of its ongoing campaign in the region, where competition for influence between militant groups, including ISIS affiliates, has intensified.

Tillabéri, situated near the borders of Mali and Burkina Faso, has become a hotspot for terrorist activities, with armed groups regularly targeting security forces and civilians.Tap Here To Read Full Details
