Troops of the 3 Division and Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have arrested 15 armed militias and recovered a cache of weapons following an arson attack on Jamrop Village in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The arrests were made on 19 September 2025 during a targeted offensive operation based on credible intelligence, according to a statement by Samson Nantip Zhakom, a major and Media Information Officer for JTF Operation Enduring Peace.
Zhakom explained that the suspects were allegedly involved in the burning of huts in Jamrop Village and were intercepted during a technology-enabled raid by troops operating within the Joint Operations Area (JOA).
He noted that fifteen locally fabricated rifles and 105 cartridges were among the items recovered from the scene.
“As part of concerted efforts to frustrate the actions of armed criminals operating in the Joint Operations Area (JOA), troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) conducted offensive operations on 19 September 2025, following credible intelligence on the activities of armed militias who burnt huts at Jamrop Village in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
“During the technology-enabled operation, troops intercepted 15 armed militias involved in the act of arson, and recovered Fifteen fabricated rifles, One hundred and five cartridges, and other sundry items”; the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson maintained that the operation was part of a broader strategy to dismantle armed criminal networks that have been responsible for repeated attacks and unrest across parts of Plateau State.
He said the arrested individuals and recovered weapons are currently in military custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the militia who reportedly fled during the operation.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces by providing timely information that could aid in the apprehension of criminal elements threatening peace in the region.
