JTF Rescues Kidnapped Naval Officer, Recovered N35m In Nasarawa Forest

A team of operatives from the Joint Task Force has successfully rescued Cynthia Akor, a Nigerian Navy officer who was abducted from her residence in the Mpape area of Abuja.

Politics Nigeria earlier reported that Akor was abducted alongside two others from Mamman Vatsa Estate gate, Mpape road in Abuja, around 7:34 pm on Friday.

Confirming their rescue, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in the Federal Capital Territory, Isyaku Sharu said the team acted on intelligence and combed the forest in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills of Nasarawa State.

Sharu said the raid which took place between 2 am and 5.30 am on Sunday led to the rescue of Akor and other victims.

According to the DCP, the abductors had contacted the family members of the Navy officer demanding N500 million and N200 million each for the other two civilians’ release.

He said, “And immediately upon receiving the distress call, an intense search-and-rescue operation by a combined team of taskforce was conducted across Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, and Yelwa Hills, covering areas in the FCT and Nasarawa State where the victims were rescued at a settlement.”Read Full Details>.

He further stated that while four suspects were arrested during the raid, a total of N35 million suspected to be ransom obtained from their previous operations was recovered from the gang.

Sharu also noted that the rescued military officer is stable and is currently receiving medical care at the Nigerian Army Clinic in Abuja.

He added that security presence in the Mpape area of Abuja has been reinforced to secure the area and prevent the recurrence of such an incident.

He urged residents to remain vigilante while going about their daily activities in the area.
