A passenger train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna went off the tracks on early hours of Tuesday morning, causing panic among commuters.
The incident occurred along the busy corridor, which has become one of the most patronised rail routes in the country.
Although details were still sketchy at press time, eyewitnesses said several coaches derailed, forcing passengers to scramble for safety.
It was not immediately clear if there were casualties, but emergency responders and security personnel were said to be on the scene.
