A coalition comprising academics, students, alumni associations, and concerned citizens has petitioned the National Universities Commission (NUC), demanding urgent regulatory action against social media comedians and content creators who label their platforms as “universities.”

In a strongly worded protest issued on Friday, the group accused content creators of misappropriating the term “university”, arguing that it undermines the sanctity, credibility, and standards of higher education in Nigeria.

The coalition further urged the NUC to establish clear regulatory guidelines to prevent what they described as the “dilution of academic prestige” by entertainment skits and parody accounts operating under university-themed names.
