Human rights activist and former AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said that the Department of State Services (DSS) attempting to intimidate and harass market leaders in Abuja ahead of the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow nationwide protest scheduled for Monday, October 20.
In a statement posted on early hours on Tuesday, Sowore alleged that the DSS, “in a state of desperation,” has been targeting those mobilizing for the peaceful action, which seeks the immediate release of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
“We have received reports that @OfficialDSSNG, in a state of desperation, is attempting to intimidate and harass market leaders in Abuja, where we have been mobilizing since yesterday, in preparation for the planned action on Monday, October 20, to Free Nnamdi Kanu Now,” Sowore stated.
He urged citizens not to be deterred by the alleged intimidation, assuring that the planned protest will go ahead as scheduled.
“We assure Nigerian citizens, who are working tirelessly, that they should not be swayed by the DSS desperation, and they should rest assured that nothing can stop the planned action and that nothing will happen to anyone,” he added.
The #FreeNnamdiKanuNow campaign has been gaining momentum nationwide, with organizers calling for mass mobilization to demand the release of the IPOB leader, who has been in detention since 2021 despite several court rulings granting him bail.
