Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly refused to land in Egypt after learning that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be attending the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit.
According to diplomatic sources, Erdogan’s plane circled over the Red Sea instead of landing, pending confirmation of Netanyahu’s participation. The Turkish leader only touched down after receiving assurance that Netanyahu’s attendance had been canceled.
Sources close to the matter revealed that President Erdogan had previously made it clear he would not participate in any summit that included the Israeli Prime Minister, following escalating tensions between Ankara and Tel Aviv over the ongoing Gaza conflict.
