An explosion has occurred in Obinwanne community, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
The incident happened on Thursday when a man identified as Chinworeke Mmadu lost his life after the device he was carrying went off.
Two passers-by who sustained injuries during the blast were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the deceased may have been attempting to plant the device in a market within the area when it exploded.
Some residents also linked him to a group claiming to agitate for Biafra.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed the development, stating that the explosion occurred while the victim was in possession of the device.
According to the command, officers from the Njaba Divisional Headquarters responded immediately after receiving a distress call and secured the scene.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, alongside operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, visited the site and declared it safe after sweeping the area.
