Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has dismissed reports alleging that the German government rejected his proposed ambassadorial appointment, describing the claims as fake news orchestrated by political opponents.

An online platform, Peoples Gazette, had reported on Monday that the former minister’s ambassadorial posting was declined by German authorities over alleged ethnic and religious remarks attributed to him.

The report claimed that Germany rejected the appointment on March 13, 2026, citing what it described as “erratic behaviour” and “controversial past statements,” including alleged ethnocentric, tribalistic, and religious comments considered by officials to be potentially destabilising.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu recently approved Fani-Kayode’s nomination as an ambassador-designate to a Central European country, pending the completion of diplomatic processes.

Reacting via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, @RealFFK, the former minister dismissed the report, accusing opposition figures of attempting to undermine his appointment.

“Fake news everywhere. These opposition elements are so pained by my appointment and they are doing everything to discredit me and scuttle it. Whether they like it or not, I will serve my country. Keep crying!” he wrote.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the German government regarding the alleged rejection, while Nigerian authorities have also not issued a formal response to the claims.
