Despite repeated warnings from security authorities against engaging armed groups, officials and community stakeholders from Malumfashi Local Government Area are set to enter another round of negotiations today with bandit leaders operating around Yantumaki in Dan-Musa LGA of Katsina State.LeadNaija News reports
According to local sources, the talks are expected to focus on restoring a previously collapsed peace agreement and addressing last week’s abduction of 29 residents from Dan-Janku Tasha. Negotiators are also hoping to persuade the militants to reduce the ₦70 million ransom currently being demanded.
Cycle of Talks Raises Questions Over Effectiveness
Tension remains high across affected communities as residents express growing frustration with what many describe as a recurring cycle of negotiations that yield little long-term relief.
Security observers told LeadNaija News that while some peace deals temporarily halt violence, they often collapse within weeks — raising concerns that repeated engagement may be indirectly incentivising more attacks in vulnerable areas.
Local leaders insist the talks are aimed at saving lives, but critics argue that dialogue without enforcement mechanisms only emboldens criminal networks.
Authorities have yet to announce any formal position on today’s meeting.
