Suspected gunmen on Sunday opened fire on the convoy of Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Special Duties, along the Port Harcourt–Enugu Expressway.
The attack occurred at about 12:30 p.m., shortly after the convoy passed Ihube Junction, opposite the Imo State Produce Point, within Imo State territory.
Three armed men who reportedly stood by the roadside had fired at the Toyota Hilux escort vehicle carrying two police officers, damaging it and Dr. Chukwu’s Toyota Highlander SUV.
Sources said live rounds penetrated the Highlander while Dr. Chukwu was inside, but no injuries were reported. A later inspection at the police station revealed four bullet holes in the SUV.
