Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a prominent resident, Alhaji Gomina, in Lade community, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The attack happened on Sunday night shortly after the victim observed the Isha’i (evening) prayers at a local mosque. Witnesses said he was ambushed on his way home and shot dead instantly before the assailants fled ^READ MORE the scene.
The killing has thrown Lade and surrounding communities into mourning, as residents described the deceased as a respected figure devoted to religious and community service.
Fear of further attacks has forced many villagers in Patigi, Edu, and parts of Ifelodun and Ekiti Local Government Areas to flee their homes, worsening the insecurity in the region.
Community members have appealed to the Kwara State Government and security agencies to step up action against banditry, warning that continued inaction could trigger more displacement.
As of press time, neither the state government nor the police command had issued an official statement on the incident.
