The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed plans to conduct a nationwide voter revalidation and register clean-up exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan said the exercise will target the removal of duplicate registrations, underage entries, non-citizens, deceased persons, and other irregular records from the voter register, which currently contains about 93 million names.
The revalidation forms part of ongoing preparations that include the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR). The current phase of CVR, covering new registrations, transfers, and PVC replacements, runs until April 17, 2026, with the overall process expected to end on August 30, 2026.
INEC stated that the exercise is aimed at improving the accuracy and credibility of the voter register ahead of the next general elections.Continue, Read full details. .
