NAFDAC has conducted a significant operation in Oyo, resulting in the destruction of fake products valued at 43 billion naira.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) successfully conducted a destruction of substandard items, which comprised counterfeit medications, medical equipment, and other regulated products deemed unsafe, with a total value of ₦43 billion. This event took place in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Thursday.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Christiana Adeyeye, represented by Shabba Mohammed, the Director of Investigation and Enforcement, shared that counterfeit products were voluntarily surrendered to the agency by cooperative companies, non-governmental organizations, and trade unions.
“The confiscated products include aphrodisiacs, s*x enhancement drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and prescription-only medications.
“More than 30 types of products were seized in total. These included banned Codeine substances, narcotic drugs, antimalarials, aphrodisiacs, analgesics, and antibiotics worth over ₦48 million, all confiscated from drug hawkers.
“NAFDAC also gathered intelligence on the illegal warehousing, sale, and distribution of Schedule One narcotics by certain pharmaceutical vendors in Lagos and other locations across the country.
“The Investigation and Enforcement Directorate raided several pharmaceutical warehouses and premises nationwide, seizing products worth over ₦700 million,” she said.
