The Borno Police Command says it has commenced an investigation into a viral report alleging that a young woman in Gubio Local Government Area took her own life after being forced by her father to marry one of his friends.
The Command’s spokesman, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Maiduguri.
Daso said the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, had ordered a discreet investigation to verify the authenticity and circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
He said the Command was committed to establishing the facts of the matter and urged individuals with credible and verifiable information to assist the police in their ongoing investigation.
“The public is further advised to exercise caution and restraint in sharing unverified information, especially on sensitive matters that may cause panic, emotional distress, or misrepresentation of facts,” Daso stated.
