The six members of the Gumede family who tragically lost their lives in a crash on the N2 near Scottburgh have been laid to rest.
The victims, aged between 1 and 34, were Thandolwethu (1), Andile (3), Aminathi (6), Amanda (15), Thulisile (34), and Nomusa (32) Gumede.
The family was returning home to Umlazi when their vehicle collided with a truck. Miraculously, the driver survived, but all six passengers were killed, leaving the community in deep mourning.
KwaZulu‑Natal MEC for Social Development, Mbali Shinga, attended the funeral to offer condolences and reaffirm the department’s support through the Social Relief of Distress program, which provides food, counseling, and temporary assistance to families affected by tragedy.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, which serves as a stark reminder of the dangers on the coastal N2.
