President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate withdrawal of police officers attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs) nationwide, ordering that they be redeployed to carry out core policing duties across communities, LeadNaija News reports.
According to the presidency, the directive was issued during a high-level security meeting held on Sunday in Abuja with service chiefs and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The meeting was attended by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; and DSS Director-General, Tosin Adeola Ajayi.
Under the new arrangement, VIPs seeking personal protection will henceforth obtain well-armed security personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), according to the President.
The move comes amid concerns that many remote communities across the country remain under-policed, with inadequate manpower limiting timely response to rising security threats.
To strengthen policing capacity nationwide, President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police personnel. The Federal Government is also working with state governments to upgrade and expand police training facilities.
The President said the redeployment of officers from VIP assignments will help increase police presence, enhance community protection, and boost overall security operations.
The directive aligns with the administration’s broader security reforms aimed at improving the welfare, readiness and operational effectiveness of law enforcement agencies.
