The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, has officially resigned from his position.

His exit comes as he prepares to enter the 2026 Osun State governorship race, a move that immediately shifted political attention back to the unfolding contest within the APC.

The NIWA Boss resignation, confirmed on Friday night, was done in line with electoral guidelines for public office holders seeking political positions.

Oyebamiji made it clear that he was stepping aside to fully commit to his ambition.

He said, “Yes, I have resigned in accordance with the electoral law to pursue my Osun 2026 governorship ambition.”

A close associate also confirmed that the decision was deliberate and strategic, noting that Oyebamiji wanted to “face the election properly” without distractions from federal duties.

His exit from NIWA had been anticipated by party insiders following weeks of consultations and meetings across Osun political blocs.

Oyebamiji is not new to public administration. He served twice as Osun State Commissioner for Finance, where he oversaw major fiscal reforms.

He later worked as a Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

His background as a banker, economist, and administrator has continued to shape his profile among party loyalists.
