Latest Updates: Yobe State Assembly Commences Scrutiny of 2026 Finance and Appropriation Bills Yobe State House of Assembly has given accelerated consideration to the 2026 finance and appropriation bills presented by Governor Mai Mala Buni. The bills scaled through the second reading on the floor of the House after extensive deliberations by members. Leading the debate, the Majority Leader of the House, Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, said the Constitution empowers the legislature to scrutinize the budget estimates for recurrent and capital expenditures for the fiscal year to ensure due process. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf said the Bills, when passed into law, would enable the executive arm of government deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of the state. The Majority Leader, called on members of the House to support the two bills in view of their importance to the socio-economic development of the State. In their separate contributions, the members representing Mamudo and Damaturu II constituencies, Hon. Mohammed Isa Bello and Hon. Buba Ibrahim Kalallawa, described the 2026 budget proposal as one of the largest in the history of the state. They commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for initiating various developmental projects in the budget that have a direct impact on the lives of teh common man in the state Presiding over the sitting, the Speaker of the House, Chiroma Buba Mashio, committed the bills to the House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further legislative action. In a related development, the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation has released the timetable for the 2026 budget defense by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
