Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Aloy Ejimakor, has disclosed that the Biafra agitator is competent enough to defend himself in court.

Ejimakor said Kanu’s case has become politically exposed and that he understands it better than any lawyer.

Recall that Kanu recently disengaged the services of all his lawyers while declaring his interest to defend himself.

Kanu’s trial has been lingering for the past ten years, and despite the court ordering his discharge and acquittal, the Nigerian government has refused to order his release.

But on Wednesday, Kanu stood his ground during proceedings at the Abuja Federal High Court, insisting that there were no valid terrorism charges against him and adding that he would offer no defense to the one filed.

Justice James Omotosho, who offered Kanu another opportunity, said he granted the fresh chance in the interest of justice, both to the defendant and to the nation.

Kanu instead faulted the charges, insisting that he had nothing to defend under a repealed law.

Addressing journalists after the court proceeding, Ejimakor said: “Take this to the bank: Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is competent enough to defend himself, especially given the ‘political elements’ in the case, which he understands better than any lawyer. Anyways, the case is adjourned to 7th November.”
