A man has died following an incident during a vigilante operation in Niger State, while two others have been arrested in connection with the case.
Sources said the incident occurred on Feb. 16 when Maiunguwa Mohammed Sani Abdullahi, 50, reported that two men, Musa Hassan, 20, of Eminence Suleja, and Ibrahim Alhassan, 23, of Morocco Road Suleja, boarded his motorcycle from Morocco Road to Second Gate.
Suspecting the passengers to be thieves, he delegated two vigilantes, Mohammed Lawan and Ahmadu Abubakar, to monitor the situation.
The sources explained that upon arrival, the vigilantes found the passengers with Aliyu Bala, 30, a vigilante attached to the Suleja Emirate, and some NSCDC personnel in an unfinished building, reportedly under Aliyu Bala’s supervision.
When approached, Aliyu Bala reportedly jumped from the building and fled into a nearby bush. About 30 minutes later, he was sighted inside a stream.
He was rushed to General Hospital Suleja but was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains have been deposited at the hospital for autopsy.
Musa Hassan and Ibrahim Alhassan were arrested by the police and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Aliyu Bala are ongoing.
