The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has strongly rejected claims that it has removed KwaZulu-Natal convenor Willies Mchunu, describing the reports as false and misleading.
This follows a News24 report which alleged that the MK Party had removed leadership and collapsed provincial structures in both KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
Responding to the claims, MK Party national spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela said the allegations were “blatant lies” and clarified that no such action had been taken in KwaZulu-Natal.
“No formal structures of the MK Party in KwaZulu-Natal have been dissolved or collapsed. This has only taken effect in Mpumalanga. Willies Mchunu remains the Provincial Convenor of KwaZulu-Natal,” said Ndlela.
He added that the claims were intended to create confusion and misrepresent the party’s internal stability.
“These assertions are devoid of truth and serve only to mislead the public and undermine the organisational integrity of the party,” he said.
Ndlela further explained that the party recently introduced a National, Provincial and Regional Elections Machinery as part of a broader strategy to strengthen internal coordination and improve political management ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
He said the restructuring process is aimed at mobilising support and ensuring the party is fully prepared for the electoral contest.
The MK Party has also called on media organisations to adhere to ethical journalism standards, urging reporters to verify information before publication.
“Responsible journalism plays a critical role in safeguarding public trust and democratic discourse,” Ndlela added.
