The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a fresh twist as key stakeholders from five southern states — Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Abia, and Imo — have distanced themselves from a controversial zoning meeting scheduled in Lagos, accusing its conveners of exclusion and political manipulation.
In a joint statement on Thursday, the party leaders declared that any resolutions or communiqués arising from the “PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit” would not be binding on the wider PDP family in the South.
The statement, signed by the PDP State Chairmen — Austin Nwachukwu (Imo), Abraham Amah (Abia), Barr. Venatuis Ikem (Cross River), Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan (Akwa Ibom), and Aaron Chukwuemeka (Rivers) — was also endorsed by the National Vice Chairman (South-East), Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. O. K. Chinda, as well as several former governors, senators, and national officers of the party..IMAGIN!!!,AFTER HE GIVES HER EVERYTHING, SEE WHAT SHE DID TO HIS MOTHER AFTER SHE CAUGHT HER WITH ANOTHER MAN
According to the leaders, the meeting convened in Lagos by the Administrative Secretary of the PDP Zoning Committee at the instance of its chairman, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, was “illegal, exclusionary, and self-serving.”
They argued that critical stakeholders, including several state chairmen, former governors, ranking lawmakers, and national officers, were deliberately sidelined from a process expected to decide the future of power rotation and zoning arrangements within the party.
“It is highly regrettable and indeed deeply disturbing that such a meeting was convened without the courtesy of inviting several state chairmen from the South East and South South, as well as other national officers and eminent leaders of our party,” the statement read.
The leaders accused the conveners of seeking to manipulate zoning outcomes for selfish political interests while ignoring the official Zoning Committee set up by the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which is yet to submit its report.
They warned that any attempt to impose decisions reached “in secrecy and exclusion” would be resisted, stressing that such actions threaten the unity and cohesion of the PDP at a time when collective strength is most needed.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we categorically dismiss any resolutions, communiqués, or outcomes purportedly emanating from this meeting as neither binding on, or reflective of, the collective will and aspirations of the PDP family across Southern Nigeria,” the statement declared.
The group reaffirmed its loyalty to the party’s ideals of fairness, equity, and inclusivity, while calling on the National Working Committee (NWC) and NEC to disregard the Lagos meeting.
The crisis comes amid growing alignment of some PDP leaders with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, who has been at the centre of power struggles within the party since the 2023 general elections….Read..The..Full…Article..
