A recent graduate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA, Joy Adeyemi, who was brutally murdered, has been laid to rest in her hometown of Arigidi-Akoko, Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The development was confirmed in a statement signed by the President of the Students’ Union, Comr. Salami Akeem, General Secretary, Comr. Bakare Jamiu Abiodun, following the union leadership’s visit to Iwaro General Hospital to take possession of Joy’s remains.
In the statement, the students called on security agencies to act “swiftly and effectively to ensure transparency and accountability in their profession.”
The union said, “Amidst gripping fear and rigorous ongoing investigations following the brutal murder of Joy, a fresh graduate from the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Faculty of Education, a POS attendant who was reportedly killed by her inhumane boyfriend, a suspected serial killer who remains at large—we have taken an active role in following up on the investigation.
“Today, the leadership of the Students’ Union visited Iwaro General Hospital to collect the remains of Joy, who has now been buried in her hometown, Arigidi-Akoko.
“While the investigation continues, we urge the Nigerian Police to act decisively for the transparency and accountability of their profession.
“The Students’ Union, which has been closely monitoring the case since the tragic news of her passing, deeply understands the sorrow that has befallen our student community.
“We profoundly commiserate with the entirety of AAUA, including the school management and students, and pray that God grants her soul eternal rest while giving us the strength to bear this loss”.
