My One Month Rent in the U.S. Is Equivalent to One Year Rent in Nigeria — Skit Maker Lord Lamba Laments

Nigerian comedian and content creator, Lord Lamba, has sparked reactions online after comparing the cost of rent abroad to housing expenses in Nigeria.

In a video shared on social media, the skit maker expressed surprise at how expensive accommodation is overseas, revealing that his monthly rent outside Nigeria is equivalent to what many Nigerians pay for an entire year.

According to him, the comparison made him realise that if he were living in Nigeria under the country’s common advance payment system, he would have already paid several years’ rent upfront.

“Did you know that the rent here… mostly the rent is one year rent in Nigeria?” he said while explaining the difference in housing costs.

Lamba added that a single month’s rent where he currently lives equals 12 months’ rent back home, joking that he would have paid “12 years’ rent in advance” if the payments were calculated using Nigeria’s yearly rent structure.
