The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal alcohol production factory in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
During the raid, over 2,000 cartons of empty bottles and already packaged drinks were seized.
Also seized were a mini plastic mixing tank, an improvised filter, and various packaging materials.
Three suspects, identified as Ikenna Daniel Ndeka, Innocent Chike, and Chukwu John, were arrested in connection with the illegal operation.
The estimated value of the seized items is put at N200m.
βNAFDAC enforcement officers acting on intelligence reports, have uncovered an illegal facility producing various alcoholic beverages in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State. After thorough surveillance, the officers discovered that several packing stores and rooms in Oke-Arin market had been converted into makeshift factories where different brands of alcoholic drinks were being produced, packaged, and distributed in the open market,β NAFDAC said on Friday.
NAFDAC warned residents to be watchful when purchasing alcoholic beverages.
βNAFDAC has estimated the street value of the seized items at N200m and is urging the public to remain vigilant, especially when purchasing alcoholic beverages,β it stated.
According to the agency, investigation is ongoing, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted at the conclusion of investigation. Continue>
