The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command, says it has arrested a 37-year-old, Ali Muhammad, with 8,000 bottles of Akuskura (a herbal mixture) and 48 blocks of Cannabis Sativa.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Kano.
He said the suspect was apprehended on Aug. 28, around Gadar Tamburawa, on Zaria-Kano Road, during a stop and search, while conveying goods from Lagos en route to Maiduguri.
According to him, the illicit substances were concealed in a trailer fully loaded with tricycles (Keke Napep).
“The exhibits were hidden between the tricycles and beneath the trailer, where a wooden cover had been constructed to hide the items.
“NDLEA operatives discovered the concealment through diligence and commitment,” he revealed.
Muhammad-Maigatari said the suspect and the exhibits were in custody, pending further investigation and laboratory analysis to confirm the nature of the substances.
He quoted the NDLEA Commander, Kano State Strategic Command, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, as appreciating the support of the NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.), in strengthening operations across the country.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or consignments to the nearest NDLEA office or other security agencies for prompt action.
