The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has imposed a penalty of N766.2 million on Multichoice Nigeria for breaching the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act).
The Commission revealed in an announcement issued on Sunday, signed by Babatunde Bamigboye, Head of Legal, Enforcement & Regulations.
The Commission reports that it began investigating Multichoice in the second quarter of 2024 due to concerns about potential violations of its subscribers’ privacy rights and the unauthorized international transfer of personal data belonging to Nigerians.
