The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved the Nigerian Medium-term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2026–2030, also known as the Renewed Hope Economic Development Plan, which aims to consolidate ongoing reforms and advance President Bola Tinubu’s vision of achieving a $1 trillion economy.
The approval was announced by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, during a press briefing with State House correspondents on Thursday, following the 151st NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Bagudu explained that the new plan will replace the 2021–2025 National Development Plan, which expires in December, and is aligned with the broader Nigeria Agenda 2050. He emphasized that Agenda 2050 was developed in 2020 with input from the private sector, civil society, political parties, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders.
“The Renewed Hope Plan 2026–2030 will ensure policy continuity, consolidate reforms, and respond to emerging socioeconomic challenges,” Bagudu stated. “It will accelerate job creation, improve human capital, expand sustainable infrastructure, enhance food security, and strengthen social protection.”
The Council urged full participation by states, local governments, and other stakeholders to ensure inclusivity and drive broad-based economic growth.
