Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly weighing a sweeping cabinet reshuffle amid escalating friction within his security and political establishment, Israel Hayom has reported.
According to the outlet, the proposed changes include:
- Gideon Sa’ar moving from Foreign Minister to Defense Minister
- Eli Cohen being elevated from Energy Minister to Foreign Minister
- Israel Katz shifting from Defense Minister to Energy Minister
The deliberations come against a backdrop of growing tension between Netanyahu and Katz, fuelled by Katz’s public disagreements with IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir.
Meanwhile, Kan News reports that Netanyahu’s inner circle now regrets the appointment of Zamir, accusing the army chief of acting “too independently” and not in line with prior assurances.
Despite the strains, Netanyahu and Zamir held a one-hour meeting described as being conducted in a “good atmosphere.” However, the rift between Zamir and Defense Minister Katz remains unresolved. Zamir reportedly expected a joint meeting with both leaders, but Netanyahu opted to meet Katz and Zamir separately instead.
A source familiar with the deteriorating relationship offered a stark assessment:
“Working relations have been reduced to the bare minimum.”
LeadNaija News will continue to track developments as Netanyahu navigates internal political pressures while managing Israel’s broader security landscape.
