Nigeria is stepping up efforts to combat cancer with the launch of a new awareness, prevention, and treatment project, known as the “NICRAT-AACR APT for Cancer Campaign” aims to strengthen community-based cancer control in Abuja’s six Area Councils.
The project which is the pilot, will train 60 frontline health workers on cancer advocacy, screening, and referral, targeting breast and prostate cancers. It recognises the fact that Nigeria faces a growing cancer challenge, with many cases detected late due to limited awareness and gaps in early detection services.
The ATP for Cancer Campaign project therefore promises to enhance early detection, strengthen community confidence in cancer care, and improve treatment results.
