Governor Mohammed Umaru-Bago of Niger, has saluted an elder statesman, an exemplary leader, and former Military President, retired Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, as he turns 84 on Sunday.
In a birthday message, the Governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, described the celebrant as a true patriot and a living legend who has dedicated most of his life to serving the country.
He said Babangida has demonstrated bravery and patriotism in ensuring the unity, stability, and progress of Nigeria during and after his active service.
The governor observed that the launch of the IBB Presidential Library, named after his late wife, Dr Maryam Babangida, was a clear indication of his commitment to preserving rich history and promoting education, which would benefit Niger, Nigeria and beyond.
Umaru-Bago maintained that the elder statesman has written his name on the sands of time through the numerous policies and programmes implemented when he was the Head of State and military president of Nigeria between 1985 and 1993.
The governor said the celebrant has become a beacon of hope and a role model to many generations, and posterity will continue to be kind to him.
He celebrated the enduring legacy of the celebrant in the political and economic evolution of Nigeria and congratulated him for attaining the age of 84, which he said was a great milestone in life.
The governor prayed for Allah’s continuous blessings, good health and vitality, as well as wisdom to continue to provide wise counsel for more impact.
