The Federal Government has revealed that Nigeria will require about $345 million every year to reintegrate and properly equip its estimated 15 million out-of-school children with essential skills.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, made this known on Tuesday during the inaugural Federal Ministry of Education Private Sector Breakfast Convening held in Lagos.
He explained that the figure represents the current per capita cost needed to effectively tackle the growing education crisis.
Alausa further stated that out-of-school rates remain alarmingly high across the country, with nearly a quarter of children between the ages of 5 and 14 affected.
He added that the situation is more critical in the North-East and North-West regions, where the number rises to over two-fifths, highlighting the urgent need for intervention and increased investment in the sector.
