Barau FC has officially dismissed widespread reports that one of its players was killed during a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Katsina United. The club’s president clarified that while a violent attack by home supporters did occur, leaving nine persons injured, the viral claims of a player’s death were “fake” and designed to “confuse.”

Barau FC President Shawwal Barau I. Jibrin denied reports that a player was killed.The club confirmed nine people were injured, including a player, a consultant, and six supporters.

Player Nana Abraham sustained a deep cut on his neck but has been discharged from the hospital.The NPFL had earlier fined Katsina United ₦9 million for breaching league rules during the match.

The club praised the NPFL’s sanctions, stating they would serve as a deterrent.Initial reports had claimed a player was stabbed by a pitch invader after the team equalized.The president urged supporters to remain calm, describing football as a tool for unity.
