Veteran newspaper reporter, editor, columnist and author Hajiya Rahmatu Ali Ohioma died in Abuja on Tuesday evening after a very brief illness, her family announced.
A graduate of Queen’s College, Ilorin and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Hajiya Rahmatu was for many years a state correspondent of New Nigerian Newspapers.
She later became the paper’s Features Editor, Deputy Editor, Adverts Manager and member of the Editorial Board.
She later served on the Editorial Board of Daily Trust newspaper for a decade and was the author of two books.
Her remains were conveyed to her hometown, Ankpa in Kogi State Wednesday for burial later in the day.
In his condolence message to the family, Editor- in -Chief of 21st Century Chronicle, Malam Mahmud Jega, described Hajiya Rahmatu as a brilliant, hardworking and amiable colleague who maintained a wide circle of friends and with whom he worked for two decades in New Nigerian and Daily Trust and in many other special projects.
He prayed to Allah to grant her Aljannat Firdaus and to grant her immediate family, colleagues and friends the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
