The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, has disclosed that the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed ₦59 million, benefiting more than 600,000 students across the country.
Issa-Onilu made the announcement on Thursday in Kano during a news conference to unveil five nationwide sensitisation campaigns aimed at deepening awareness of government policies, national values, security, and disaster preparedness.
Represented by Mr. Williams Dogo, the agency’s Director of Legal Services, Issa-Onilu reaffirmed that NELFUND is open to all eligible Nigerians enrolled in public tertiary institutions.
He further revealed that the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, in collaboration with partners, is set to support 150,000 young Nigerians with ₦110 billion in empowerment initiatives.
The NOA boss also highlighted the Federal Government’s directive on flood mitigation, which includes an allocation of ₦3 billion per state in 2024 for drainage clearance and relocation of communities in flood-prone areas.
According to him, the sensitisation drive, themed “Nationwide Sensitisation on Five Thematic Areas”, is designed to improve citizens’ understanding of critical national initiatives and foster stronger civic engagement.
