Following the resignation of the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji from the cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over allegation of certificates scandal, a leading socio-political organization in the state, Enugu Youth Coalition has urged the president to pick his next ministerial nominee for the state from Enugu North Senatorial District, a zone with the largest voting block but have not produced a Federal Minister since 1999.
In a statement released to newsmen in Enugu on Thursday by the national coordinator of the coalition, Dr. Edwin Obune, the group said the former minister came from the same zone as the current Governor of the state, Peter Mbah which is Enugu East Senatorial District while the Minister that represented the state for eight years under late President Muhammadu Buhari, Geoffrey Onyeama came from Enugu West Senatorial District.
Adding that only Enugu North Senatorial District popularly known as Nsukka cultural zone is the zone that have not produced a cabinet minister since 1999.
The group further stated that it was not imposing it’s recommendation on the president but is appealing to him to give the Nsukka zone a good sense of belonging since the zone have suffered enough marginalization in the state.
We are appealing to the president who is our father to show another sense of justice in his next ministerial nomination the same way he ended the over 50 years of endless wait for the manifestation of the 3R’s of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Reconciliation promise made to the Igbos after the Civil War ended with the creation of the Southeast Development Commission.
If the president would yield to our demand, there is no doubt that his approval rating in the state will skyrocket to another level because justice would be given to the zone that needed it most.
